Versions of a prototype
How Glitterball numbers versions of a prototype, where to find its walkthroughs, and how to rename it
Each prototype in Glitterball has numbered versions: v1, v2, v3. Each walkthrough you record adds a version, holding the recording and a copy of the page as it was. Each hosted upload is a version too.
How Glitterball groups versions
Glitterball knows two recordings are the same prototype when:
- they carry the same Glitterball tag, or were opened from the same prototype in Create walkthrough, or
- they share a name, such as an upload named "Checkout", or
- they're on the same address. Glitterball ignores
www., the query string,#fragments and a trailing slash.
Preview hosts that make a new address for each deploy fold back into one prototype. For example, app-k3j2h1g9f-team.vercel.app and deploy-preview-42--site.netlify.app count as new versions of app-team.vercel.app and site.netlify.app.
See a prototype's walkthroughs
- On the prototype, choose its name on the Glitterball bar. The list shows every walkthrough, newest first.
- In the web app at /app, every walkthrough is listed newest first with its prototype's name. Type in Search to find one by title or prototype.
Older versions
A walkthrough recorded on an older version still plays on the live prototype. If the prototype has changed since, Glitterball plays it as it was recorded and says which version it was made on. See Follow a walkthrough.
Rename a prototype
Glitterball names a prototype from its link or upload. To change it:
- On a walkthrough's share page, choose the prototype's name (Rename this prototype), or change it in the Glitterball bar's settings on the prototype
- Type the new name and press Enter. Press Esc to keep the old one.
Leave the name empty and press Enter to go back to the name Glitterball picked. Anyone in the workspace can rename a prototype. The new name shows everywhere, including the Glitterball bar on the prototype.
