Follow a walkthrough

What viewers see when they open a walkthrough link: the recording playing over the live prototype, with the presenter's cursor, voice and camera

When someone opens a walkthrough link, the live prototype loads with a walkthrough player on top. The prototype stays real: links work, forms work, and the viewer can take over at any point.

Playing it

  1. Open the link. The player says where the walkthrough starts and how long it is.
  2. Press Play. If the browser blocks sound, press Play again for sound.

As it plays:

At the end of a screen, the cursor waits and pulses where the presenter clicked next. Click there to carry on, or press Play.

Starting from the right place

A walkthrough plays from the screen it was recorded on. If you open the prototype somewhere else, the player says "This walkthrough starts on" that screen. Press Play to go there and start.

Taking over

Click the page yourself and you're driving: the walkthrough follows what you do. Press Play to hand it back.

If the presenter clicked something that isn't on your page, the cursor shows Your turn. Click where the cursor is, or press Play to try again.

Going off the path

If you go to a screen the walkthrough doesn't cover, it pauses and gets out of the way. When you've left it, the player offers:

Older versions

If the walkthrough was recorded on an older version and the prototype has changed since, it plays as recorded, in a larger frame, with a note such as "Recorded on v2, and this is v3". Choose Try it on this version to follow it on the current prototype, or Open v2 live when that version is still online.

Questions along the way

The presenter may have pinned questions to moments in the walkthrough. Playback stops at each one. See Ask questions in a walkthrough.
