Play walkthroughs in Slack
Add the Glitterball app to Slack so walkthrough links play right in the message, and feedback comes back to a channel
With the Glitterball app in your Slack, a walkthrough link pasted in any channel or direct message opens as a video, with the narration and captions, without leaving Slack. A channel you pick hears when a walkthrough is shared, and when someone comments on it, answers one of your questions or watches to the end.
Add Glitterball to Slack
You need to be an owner or admin of your Glitterball workspace, and allowed to add apps to your Slack. A free Glitterball workspace is enough.
- Sign in at glitterball.dev and choose Integrations in the sidebar.
- Under Slack, press Add to Slack.
- Slack asks you to allow Glitterball and to pick a channel. That channel gets the feedback posts.
- Back in Glitterball, Slack shows Connected.
Share a walkthrough in Slack
- Open the walkthrough in Glitterball and press Copy video link.
- Paste it in Slack. The message shows the walkthrough with a play button.
- Press play to watch it right there, with the cursor, the narration and the captions.
Only links that are shared play in Slack. A walkthrough that hasn't been shared, or a private link, shows as a plain link.
What goes to the channel
Glitterball posts one line to the channel you picked when someone:
- in your workspace shares a walkthrough (it plays right there)
- comments on a walkthrough
- answers a question you asked in it
- watches it to the end
It never posts anywhere else, and never uses @channel or @here. To pick another channel, add Glitterball to Slack again and choose it.
What Glitterball can see in Slack
Glitterball only hears about links to glitterball.dev, so it can turn them into a player. It doesn't read your messages, files or members, and it doesn't store the links people post. It keeps your Slack workspace's name, the app's token and the address of the channel it posts to, until you remove the app. More in Your data and the privacy policy.
Remove it
In Slack, open the Glitterball app's settings and choose Remove app, or remove it from your Slack's app management page. Glitterball deletes the token for your Slack workspace straight away. To stop the channel posts as well, press Disconnect Slack under Integrations.
Only a webhook field?
If Integrations shows a field for a webhook address but no Add to Slack button, you can still get the channel posts: in Slack, add Incoming Webhooks to a channel and paste its address. Links won't play in Slack that way.
